Sarah Stengle

I am a visual artist who does works on paper, artist's books, and small-scale sculpture.

I choose my imagery and materials for the iconographic or connotative qualities and often juxtapose elements from disparate sources.  Many of the images I use are taken from old scientific books, which I usually find or buy in an already damaged state.

I live in Princeton, New Jersey and have a studio in Trenton. I studied at Carnegie Mellon, BFA '84, and the School of Visual Arts, MFA '88. I also work as a book designer, most recently at Princeton University Press, and now as a freelancer.

My work is included in many public and private collections including the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard, the Pierrepont Morgan Library, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, The Beinecke Library at Yale, and the Doro Boehme Collection of Artist's Books at the Art Institute of Chicago.
